Nazakat Ali jailed for 14 years for attempted murder
Nazakat Ali, who stabbed a woman 15 times during a frenzied attack and left her for dead, has been jailed.
Ali (born 12/07/1984) of East Street, Rochdale pleaded guilty to attempted murder at Manchester Crown Square.
Today, Friday 27 February 2015, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
The court heard that on Monday 29 September 2014, Nazakat and the victim were at an address on East Street, Wardleworth, when the pair started arguing.
Ali’s mother, who was also at the address, entered the sitting room where the two were arguing and saw that Nazakat was holding a knife.
She describes how both herself and the victim leapt up to try and remove the knife from his grasp, but they were unable to prevent the attack.
He viciously stabbed the victim multiple times in the head, neck, abdomen and upper body, severing her aortic artery, the main blood supply to the heart.
Ali then ran, leaving the victim lying in a pool of her own blood as his mother screamed for help.
The victim was rushed to hospital, where she underwent major surgery and was intensive care for several weeks.
Detective Sergeant Louise Ashurst said: “This is one of the most brutal and horrific attacks I have experienced as a detective.
“The injuries she suffered were so severe that the first officer on the scene thought she was dead, her defensive injuries showed that he stabbed her with such force that the knife went right through her hand, breaking her forefinger.
“It was only after the officer felt for her pulse, that he realised she was still alive and even then it was touch and go, with the victim undergoing life-threatening surgery and several harrowing weeks in intensive care.
“But the victim was strong and brave, and I hope this sentence goes some way to helping her overcome what has happened.”
