It is with sadness that the Wright family announce that Alderman Mrs Beryl Wright died in her sleep yesterday evening. In the last few weeks, Mrs Wright had been diagnosed with a mentally and physically debilitating condition and struggled to fight off infection.
Mrs Wright lived her life following the promise made first as a Girl Guide in the 1930s then later as a co-founder of Wardle Scout Group, to do her best. She did her duty to God, the Queen, the village of Wardle and the town of Rochdale.; she helped people she felt deserved needing helping and she kept all of the Scout/Guide laws. Like many of her generation, she aspired to nothing more than to be remembered as someone who had done her duty.
Whether you knew her as a Mum, Gran, Great Gran, Neighbour, Teacher, Councillor, Mayoress, Scout leader or friend, you will have memories of her. We would very much appreciate your help to celebrate her 87 years of life by sharing these memories with us her Facebook page 'AldermanMrs Wright'.
If you have any photos please post them here too as we would like to make a collection of her life as others have experienced it.
Rest in Peace Mum.
Honorary Alderman: Joyce Beryl Wright
