Full house for Home Watch conference
Date published: 16 August 2012
Home Watch members from across Greater Manchester came together last month to celebrate the successes of the scheme and share new ideas.
Hosted at Lancashire County Cricket Club, this was the first Home Watch conference arranged by Greater Manchester Police Authority (GMPA).
More than 130 members attended the event which included workshops on social media, working more closely with Greater Manchester Police (GMP), counter terrorism, and how to get young people involved in Home Watch.
The conference was chaired by Russell Bernstein, GMPA Executive Director, with speeches from GMPA Chairman Cllr Paul Murphy, Chief Constable Sir Peter Fahy and Janet Gould, Chair of the North West Neighbourhood and Home Watch Regional Forum.
The day ended with a question and answer session. The questions have also been published on the web site, along with presentations, videos and feedback from the event.
Cllr Paul Murphy said: “The day was a huge success and we’ve had positive feedback from those who came along. This was a great opportunity to share ideas, strengthen relationships and support each other and also come up with new ways to develop Home Watch.
“There are hundreds of Home Watch schemes across Greater Manchester and they are a fantastic resource for the police. They are the eyes and ears of the community and without their help and support, the fight against crime would be a lot harder.
“This is why we hosted this conference – to build on the fantastic work that goes on every day and reassure Home Watch members that we and the Force are here to support them. We remain committed to Home Watch and want to build on its success. This is why the Force has created partnership units on each division and continues to invest in neighbourhood policing, including the creation of 200 police staff posts to support neighbourhood policing teams”.
