Milnrow man arrested in organised crime crackdown

An ongoing crackdown on organised crime across Oldham has seen a 27-year-old man from Milnrow arrested on suspicion of money laundering and fraud.

The result was the latest success of Operation Caminada, a multi-agency initiative launched in November 2011 to target those living off the proceeds of organised crime.

Officers arrested the man, who has been bailed until November, on Wednesday 8 August 2012 after executing three warrants in Milnrow and Chadderton.

During the raids police also seized £18,000 in cash, two vehicles valued at £30,000 and watches believed to be worth £50,000, all of which are thought to be linked to the proceeds of crime.

Chief Superintendent Tim Forber of Greater Manchester Police’s Oldham Division said: “Operation Caminada investigates every aspect of a suspected criminal's life, including business interests, benefits and associates, and information obtained enables officers to build up a detailed picture of any illegal activity.

“We are determined to crack down on those who make their living from crime, and my message to anyone doing so is simple – you may think you are getting away with it, but we will catch you and bring you to justice.

“I would also urge people to let us know about anyone who they suspect may be living off the proceeds of crime, either by calling police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
