Rheumatology Centre opens its doors for public tour

Date published: 06 August 2012

The new specialist Rheumatology Centre at Rochdale Infirmary is to open its doors to the public for a drop-in tour. The Pennine Rheumatology Centre has been opened since April this year.

The Centre offers specialist outpatient and day case facilities to patients affected by inflammatory rheumatic disease including those with rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, lupus, osteoarthritis and osteoporosis.

The tour is part of a series of Medicine for Members’ events which are free and held regularly by The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust to give the public and staff  the opportunity to learn more about its services.

Rheumatoid arthritis affects about 60,000 people in the UK, most of working age and is three times as common in women as men. There is no cure for rheumatoid arthritis, but modern treatment can keep people well and greatly reduce damage to joints.
