Joe Millington to walk Snowdon for charity

Date published: 06 August 2012

18-year-old Joe Millington from Milnrow is organising a walk up Snowdon to raise money for mental health charity YoungMinds.

Joe and a group of seven friends, all students of Oldham Sixth Form College, will tackle Wales’ highest mountain next Monday (13 August); hoping to help the charity and increase awareness of mental health problems amongst young people.

Joe said: “I chose YoungMinds because people close to me have sought help from psychologists over the years. I’ve taken it upon myself to be a peer mentor for suffering children in the past and now want to help by raising money.

“We’re really hoping to smash our target and raise as much as possible.

“The problem with mental health problems is that they’re not shown on the outside, so people can be really suffering but others aren’t aware; it’s not a visible issue like a physical disability.”

Ambitious Joe is no stranger to fundraising or the dizzy heights of Snowdon. “I took part in the abseil down the ‘Black Box’ in Rochdale earlier this year, and I’ve actually done Snowdon a few times before, so I’m not too anxious!”
