The revelation that each household in Greater Manchester is currently throwing away an average of £680 a year of edible food has sparked a call for people to reveal more about their food habits.
Recycle for Greater Manchester is asking people to share just a few of their habits when it comes to throwing food away, to be in with a chance of winning a meal for two, courtesy of the River Bar and Restaurant at the Lowry Hotel.
By visiting www.recycleforgreatermanchester.com/food people can complete a quick survey to help form a better understanding of food waste in the area, which will reignite the Love Food Hate Waste campaign this September.
Councillor Neil Swannick, Chairman of Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA) said: “We would like to hear from as many people as possible to get a truly local picture of the situation in Greater Manchester.
Tonnes of edible food is thrown away locally and this campaign will help residents to save money and also limit the environmental impact food waste causes. There are activities residents can get involved with and lots of useful food saving tips. Our aim is zero waste to landfill and with residents support we can achieve it.”
Look out for road shows, cookery demonstrations and classes across Greater Manchester in September and October 2012.
