Museum gains national recognition for being a great place to visit

The Greater Manchester Fire Service Museum has been awarded for the fantastic experience it gives visitors by being accredited as a Quality Assured Visitor Attraction for the second time.

The museum is the only dedicated fire and rescue service museum to be given the accolade and the award is recognition of the hard work the volunteers behind the venue put into making it a fantastic place.

Accreditation by the national tourism authority, VisitBritian, means that experts have assessed what the museum has to offer visitors right from the moment they arrive, through any guided tours, the venue itself and even the catering, shop and toilets!

The award recognises that everything about the museum is of a high standard and visitors can expect to have a fulfilling time.

Museum curator Bob Bonner said: "Secret-shopper techniques were used to test out our visitor services and facilities, including leaflets, telephone manner, answering service, how we meet-and-greet visitors and general services, including the website.

"Two members of the assessment team visited us unannounced during the May Open Day at the Museum and went away very happy."
