Body found in canal

The body of a women has been found in Rochdale Canal in Smithy Bridge.
Officers were called to the canal bank off Smithybridge Road shortly after noon today (Friday 20 July) after receiving reports that there was a body in the water.
Detective Inspector Andrew Butterworth, of Rochdale CID, said: “We are in the early stages of the investigation and trying to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.
“However, at this stage her death is not believed to be suspicious.”
