Budding artists aged 6 to 16 being asked to draw their favourite place or scene in the borough
Young people are being encouraged to get drawing this summer and come up with their ideas on what the borough means to them.
‘A Great Day Out’ is the name of a new competition now running in all local libraries, with budding artists aged 6 to 16 being asked to draw their favourite place or scene in the borough.
Councillor Peter Williams, Cabinet Member for Economic Development and Customer Services said: “With the summer holidays upon us, using the great day out theme we’re asking young people to capture the essence of Rochdale, Heywood, Middleton or the Pennines and its environment, in a painting, pastel, sketch or drawing. Illustrate what your favourite thing would be to do on a day out, so that could be your favourite building or place, somewhere nearby you like to visit, or just illustrate what the borough means to you.
"We have some excellent prizes too, kindly donated by local organisations.”
All entries need to be handed in at your local library by 1 September, after which a panel of local artists will award first, second and third prizes.
The winners will be able to treat themselves and their family to memorable days out, with prizes donated by local businesses including a family return trip for 4 to any destination on Northern Rail’s network, lunch for 4 at the new Feel Good Café in Rochdale, a journey for a family of 4 on the East Lancashire Railway and a visit to their museum, a guided tour of Rochdale Town Hall with afternoon tea in the Mayor’s Parlour, tickets for indoor play sessions at Planet Play, Heywood and Mischief Makers, Rochdale, plus junior swim passes which cover 12 free swims at pools in Heywood, Middleton or Rochdale.
