The Annual Springhill Hospice Midnight Walk - with a bit of Fizz

Date published: 18 July 2012

Around 400 ladies took part in Springhill Hospice’s Midnight Walk.

Jenny McAlpine who plays Fizz in Coronation Street surprised the walkers whilst they were undertaking their aerobic warm up in the Auditorium at Middleton Arena, by getting on stage with the Aerobics Instructor. Jenny then set the walkers off on the walk, which passed through Rhodes, Bowlee, Heywood, Sudden, Castleton and Slattocks, on the stroke of Midnight. Jenny said she was “amazed” at the turn out, and the atmosphere.

The Best Dressed Walker, who won a bottle of Lanson Champagne, was Christine Holmes, and the first walker back was Linda Proctor, completing the 13 mile walk in an impressive 2.5 hours.

Alison McGuigan, Fundraising Lead at the Hospice, said: “A massive thank to our walkers. The atmosphere on the night was fabulous with lots of laughter and, although the money is still coming in, we anticipate over £30,000 will have been raised from the walk. Thank you to each and every one of our walkers and to everybody who made the event possible!”

The walk was sponsored by Carcraft.
