A group of enthusiastic AS level geography students from Rochdale Sixth Form College met with key players from Rochdale Borough council to discuss how their home town is being regenerated and re-imaged.
As part of their geography fieldwork, the students were able to take part in a question and answer session with leading council members to ask how and why certain areas of Rochdale are being regenerated. In particular they discussed the environmental considerations that need to be taken into account before any project commences.
Geography teacher, Sue Foster comments: “This informative exercise has formed a part of their Geographical Investigations unit where students are required to carry out fieldwork into urban rebranding. Having a local focus to fieldwork has enabled the students to engage with the future regeneration of Rochdale and be an active part of this as local residents."
Penny Sharp, Service Director for the Regeneration of Rochdale said: “We were very impressed with the perceptive and insightful questions that the students at Rochdale Sixth Form College had prepared and are only too happy that we were able to demonstrate how the topics they are studying are used in practice.”
