Falinge Park High School

Date published: 12 July 2012

Many thanks to all the families, friends and students who joined us for the showing of ‘Tales from the Lonely Lighthouse’ in school this week. The performance received some lovely feedback from both adults and young people. Well done to the cast and crew who worked so hard to deliver such an exceptional performance. Thanks also go to the primary schools who came along. Each primary left with a resource pack and CD-ROM.

Our local history walk led by Mr Moss proved to be a great morning and the sunshine held out for us. The tour lasted two hours and featured many historic landmarks in the Falinge area. Thanks go to Mr Moss for his hard work and research in planning the event and to the dedicated band who enjoyed the leisurely stroll. Thanks also go to the team at Horse Carrs who proved so accommodating during the tour.

There are still places available for the Drama Summer School if you are a Year 6 learner who will be joining us in September. For more details, please contact Mr De Courcey directly at school before close of day Tuesday 17 of July 2012.

Many thanks to Broadfield Primary School Year 1 learners who came along to our Teddy Bear’s Picnic last week. The session featured story telling by the ‘Can of Worms’ organisation and Art and Craft sessions. The event ended with sandwiches and cakes for bears and children alike. Many thanks to all who made the session so enjoyable.

Norman Warwick joined learners in CALL sessions this week to lead a special workshop based on ‘Diamonds’. The sessions featured collective poetry writing and small group discussion. Well done to the 32 Year 7 CALL learners who took part.

DVDs of the ‘Tales of the Lonely Lighthouse’ are available directly from the CEPA Office. Please contact Mr De Courcey if you would like to order a copy.

Well done to all the Year 9 and 10 BTEC Drama learners who took part in the Royal Shakespeare Company ‘I Cinna’ production recently. Learners created a range of poetry and took part in a short question and answer session with the celebrated writer, Malorie Blackman. The standard of work produced during the project was particularly impressive.

It is with much regret that due to the recent bad weather, and further poor weather forecasted, unfortunately the sponsored walk that was due to take place on Monday 16th July has had to be cancelled. The school day will now be a normal working day and pupils should bring in their books for normal lessons and arrive at the usual time for school.

Also, for the same reason, the Sports Day has also been cancelled. Details about this day will be given to all pupils before Tuesday.

The Year 11 Prom night was a great success, it was lovely to see all the Year 11 pupils again and we wish you all a successful and happy future.

Would all parents please be informed that the price for a school lunch will be increased to £1.85 with effect from 1 September 2012.

School closes for pupils on Tuesday 17 July, and we wish everyone a safe and pleasant holiday, and we hope for a bit of good weather!!

School will reopen for all pupils on Wednesday 5 September 2012.
