Redwood Sports Personality of the Year Presentation - We hope you managed to join us for our celebration evening to acknowledge the achievements of our young people within the sporting and leisure aspect of school.

Manchester Sports Games

A big well done to all those students who have taken part in the Manchester Sports Games at Sports City. A great time was had by all and as ever, all the students did us proud ! Key 103 - A group of KS4 students spent the day at Key 103 in preparation for their role as reports on the Sports Games ! This opportunity will only add to the high quality Redwood Radio as presented by our DJ, Peter !

Key Stage 4 news

Year 10’s have been visiting as part of transition for September. There have been lots of activities, including A Me B coming in to do some work on ‘rap’. The work they did was called ‘Life of Redwood’ as well as other rap music.

A Me B also went into SEB and worked with the pupils and looked at different video’s of rap music.

SEB have been on their end of year trip to Portland Basin to the industrial museum and had their lunch out too. They had a fabulous day out they also held a coffee morning for parents to come and visit.

Mr Barnes’s group worked on a group power point on likes and dislikes using different techniques.

SSC have been out having a tour on the bus, they drove around Eccles, Media City and past the Trafford centre. They had their lunch out at a chip shop. Some pupils have been to Key 103 again this week, Rezwana, Mica and Peter got to visit Key 103 a second time to do some reporting on the Manchester student games. They were shown how to use the radio equipment and they even did some broadcasting live on air. Fantastic achievement guys!

The construction group have finished their time at Hopwood Hall this year and have brought back to school some finished pieces of work.

Key Stage 3 News

New Year 7 pupils have visited spending a day to get more accustomed to Redwood. 9B & D made a Spanish Omelette to celebrate Spain winning the European cup. A group of students represented Redwood at the Schools games in Manchester, giving great performances and making Redwood proud! The 1st pupil/ parent cookery session was a success, Lucy with her mum Hazel made pasta bolognaise together. Lucy’s mum said she really enjoyed it!

Jack has been learning all about body parts, he enjoyed singing and watching on the computer other children acting out ‘Head, shoulders, knees and toes’! Kelsey has been improving her signing skills and playing games to encourage learning. As part of Orange and Red lessons, pupils have devised their own Eurovision wheelchair dance contest. They took previous winners over the decades and transformed their songs into a ‘routine’. They were videoed each week and then invited an audience, judges comprising of staff and students and followed the Eurovision format. Belgium was declared the winner with ‘J’aime La Vie’ - I love life! It was great fun and everyone enjoyed the entertainment.

8/9 Orange and Red visited Asda at Rawtenstall and enjoyed eating and drinking in the café.

Year 7 Green and the Lilac room performed the production of Joseph and his Technicolour Cream Coat to parents—many thanks for your support. A few pupil from the school council and the lilac room went to receive their enhanced status for healthy schools at Middleton Arena.

6th Form has been off timetable and have been researching the religions of Judaism and Islam as part of our Cultural Week.

36 students and 10 staff visited the Neeli Mosque in Rochdale to get a better understanding of Islam. The group were given a tour of this grand mosque and learnt about the culture and how Muslims pray. The visit was a great success and everyone had a really good time. A big thank you to Ijaz for showing us a round.

After the mosque visit the group enjoyed lunch in Broadfield park and had a walk around some of the Asian shops on Milkstone Road. They brought back some Asian sweets for everyone to taste. Matthew’s group made some Latkes, a popular Jewish snack made from potatoes. The group had a fab time making the dish and said it tasted great.

Julie’s group had a go at making some chapattis, fresh raita and mango and onion chutneys which they tasted with some poppadums.

A group of students and staff visited the Manchester Reform Synagogue in Manchester and learnt about the Jewish culture and religion. A big thank you to Steve for showing the group around. Everyone had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed the Jews.

Redwood closes for the summer break on Friday 13 July and re-opens on Wednesday 5 September. We hope you all have a good summer break!
