Man hit with crowbar

Date published: 09 July 2012

A man was hit on the head with a crowbar in Rochdale.

At about 11.10pm on Friday 6 July, the offenders, armed with a crow bar and crook lock, were smashing windows at two houses on Ashworth Street. They also targeted a car parked outside one of the houses.

One of the householders came out to confront the pair. The man with the crowbar hit him on the head, causing him to suffer a fractured eye socket and broken jaw.

The offenders made off in a Renault Clio.

One of the offenders is described as wearing a balaclava, of medium build, about 6ft tall and was wearing a v-neck T shirt.

Detective Constable Michael Berger said: "These were two men on the rampage, armed with weapons and they need to be caught as soon as possible.

"This man bravely confronted the perpetrators, and the severity of his injuries could have been much worse.

"It is not clear why they were behaving the way they were, but we would urge any witnesses who have information to call us as soon as possible."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 4637 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
