Army cuts anger
Date published: 05 July 2012
Local MEP Paul Nuttall has reacted with anger at the Army cuts.
"There are certainly problems with the defence of the realm but they lie with the Ministry of Defence and not with the fearless regiments up and down the land," he said.
"Reducing the strength of the Army to 82,000 men means that we actually have more people in prison than soldiers protecting us.
"And these changes are not just about saving money. They mean that we would have to rely on forces from other countries which conveniently ties in well with the on-going Government agenda of closer integration with the EU.
"It would be far better to save money in other ways including halting overseas aid pro tem and handing over £50 million pounds a year to Brussels," said Mr Nuttall, UKIP Deputy Leader.
