Dr Chris Steele MBE launches Dignity in Care Awards

Date published: 04 July 2012

Age UK Metro Rochdale are delighted to have the support of ITV This Morning’s Dr Chris Steele MBE to launch this year’s Dignity in Care Awards.

Following the success of the previous year’s campaigns in recognising the wonderful care given to local older people, members of the public are once again being asked to nominate someone who they feel has shown outstanding dignity in the way they have cared for or supported someone aged 50 years and over.

The four categories for nominations are: Hospitals; Care at Home; Mental Health and Sheltered Accommodation/Residential/Nursing Homes; so whether it’s a family member who has taken on the role of full time carer or a nurse who has treated you with dignity and respect as well as treating your ailments, nominations from all areas of care provision are welcome.

The award is about continuing to improve the culture of Care Services and placing a greater emphasis on improving the quality of Care and the experience of local people using NHS Hospitals, Community Services, Care Homes and Home Support Services.

On being asked to support the local campaign Dr Chris was delighted to be able to help promote dignity in care for older people, and said of the awards: ‘It’s great to be able to focus on the wonderful care that is out there, and celebrate that, I’m really looking forward to coming to Rochdale and meeting some of the local Dignity Champions’.

Paul Gala, Chief Officer of Age UK Metro Rochdale says of the Award: ‘It’s a great opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate those often unsung heroes who make such a difference to the lives of older people, and we’re delighted to have Dr Chris Steele’s support with this year’s event.’

The closing date for nominations is 14 September 2012, so those wishing to nominate should contact Age UK on 01706 712515 for a nomination pack.

A nomination form can be downloaded from the web site: http://www.ageuk.org.uk/rochdale/News--campaigns/ITVs-Dr-Chris-Steele-helps-to-launch-Dignity-Awards

All those shortlisted will be invited to a special Awards Evening on 16 October 2012 at Rochdale Town Hall when Dr Chris will announce the winners.
