Rochdale Pensioners celebrate Diamond Jubilee

Date published: 03 July 2012

The Rochdale Pensioners Association held a belated Diamond Jubilee celebration on Wednesday 27 June.

Around 80 of the 110 members attended the event at the Town Hall.

They enjoyed a “beautiful” three course meal, a game of bingo and a raffle, followed by musical entertainment. Former Mayor, Keith Swift provided the lively singing. He played tribute to Frank Sinatra, singing some old, classic songs.

Also in attendance were the Mayor and Mayoress, Colin Lambert and Vera Hirst, chair of Age UK in Rochdale. This event was a perfect opportunity to show Age UK how the £500 grant they had given the Rochdale Pensioners Association was being put to use.

Bridget Mead, of the Pensioners Association said: “It was a marvellous, lovely day. The entertainment and food were super.”

The group collected a charity donation, which they presented to the Mayor.

Rochdale Pensioners Association organise trips out one Wednesday in each month. For their next event, they look forward to a trip to Boundary Mills Stores, followed by a cruise on a barge, serving afternoon tea and other future events include a trip to Liverpool.
