Diamond Jubilee Medal Presentation

Date published: 03 July 2012

Members of Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team (RPMRT) were presented with the Diamond Jubliee medals on Wednesday 29 June 2012 as part of the Queen's Jubilee celebrations.

The RPMRT is a registered charity and is an integral part of the National Rescue service. They cover an area of approximately 350 square miles across East Lancashire, Pendle, the Rossendale Valley and parts of Greater Manchester.

Since January 2000 over five hundred people including injured walkers, fell runners, climbers, paragliders, mountain bikers and even the odd stranded sheep or crag fast dog have been more than pleased with the service provided by the RPMRT. The RPMRT have a detailed knowledge of the terrain and prevailing conditions and have access to specialist equipment, vehicles and training.

The work of the RPMRT is not limited to moors and mountains. They have links with other emergency services, such as the police, fire and ambulance services, meaning they can become involved with a variety of issues.

In honour of sixty years of Her Majesty's Reign, the medals were presented to the team by Asrar Ul-Haq, Hub Commander from Rochdale Police, whose division the team had assisted during difficult situations last winter.

Mr Asrar said: "It's an honour for me to be presenting these medals to such dedicated men and women, who give their own time in pursuit of community service and represent the very best of the British spirit."

During the event, long term service awards were also presented to Mike King, who has ten years of service and is still smiling, Bob the dog and Brindle, who has spent 15 years on the team, training search and rescue dogs. His current dog Doc is still in training but will soon be a fully fledged team member.

Many other team members received awards in recognition of their commitment and hard work and the evening was made a great success by staff at Ramsbottom Cricket Club.
