Manchester set to welcome the Get On campaign

Date published: 03 July 2012

The Motorcycle Industry’s national Get On campaign is bringing its Free Ride Road Show to Manchester to inspire a new generation of riders.

Get On is a nationwide campaign set up by the Motorcycle Industry Association in 2009 to highlight all the advantages of motorcycling and has never been more relevant than today. In the current climate of increasing fuel and road tax price hikes, high insurance premiums for younger drivers, heavily congested roads and increased environmental concern, riding a motorcycle or scooter offers a very real solution to all these issues.

On a 125cc motorcycle, riders can benefit from 150+mpg fuel economy and pay just £16 a year for road tax! Insurance premiums for younger riders are often less than half those for a car and many manufacturers offer discounted rates for new bike buyers too. And for the price of a 5 year old second hand car you could easily buy a brand new 125cc bike or scooter with a three year manufacturer backed warranty. Other benefits include a guaranteed seat, quicker journey times, reduced delays and freedom from timetables, easier and often free parking in city centres and generally much lower CO2 emissions than the average car.

Visitors to the Get On ‘On The Road’ unit who are over the age of 16 will be able to ride a 125cc motorcycle or scooter in a free 20 minute introductory session and receive expert advice on kit, their next steps to a full licence and advice as to which type of model might suit their particular needs best.

To date over 70,000 people have taken advantage of a free session since the Get On campaign began, with approximately 80% of those taking their ride going on to complete further training. Manchester’s Coronation Street stars ShobnaGulati and Oliver Mellor are just a few of the many famous personalities to have been introduced to biking through a Get On free ride.

Get On ‘On The Road’ will be at Etihad Stadium, 6 July - 8 July where visitors can enjoy a completely free introductory session on a motorbike or scooter and receive all the expert advice they need to understand the benefits and start enjoying life on two wheels.
