12-year-old boy dies following Castleton collision

A 12-year-old boy who was critically injured in a road traffic collision in Castleton last night has now died.

Umar Hussain, from the Deeplish area of Rochdale, was taken to hospital for treatment to serious head injuries, but sadly later died.

Shortly before 4.00pm on Thursday 28 June 2012, police were called to the junction of Manchester Road (A664) and Bolton Road (A58), following reports of a collision between a Rover and a pedestrian, a 12-year-old boy.

Officers from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now investigating the circumstances surrounding last night’s collision and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.

Police Constable Paul Hailwood said: “Our thoughts are with Umar’s family, who have understandably been left devastated following the death of their young boy in the early hours of this morning.

“We have officers supporting them as best we can at this difficult time and are carrying out a thorough investigation to establish the full facts around what happened last night.
