A team member from Mecca Rochdale has started his training for the Great North Run in September, to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
Tom Scott from the club on Smith Street will be taking to the streets of Newcastle-upon-Tyne on Sunday 16 September to complete the 13.1 mile road race.
The club is one of 41 Mecca Bingos across the UK fundraising for Marie Curie Cancer Care by taking part in the run. Between them, they hope to raise a minimum of £50,000 for the charity.
The money raised will help to support Marie Curie Cancer Care provide free home nursing care and support for terminally ill people and their families.
Emma Foster, General Manager of Mecca Rochdale, said: “The team member taking part in the Great North Run has really stepped up his fundraising efforts for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
“It’s great to see Tom embracing the challenge and we’ll all be supporting him in the coming months as he gears up for the big day in September.”
Siobhan Heffeman, community fundraiser for Marie Curie Cancer Care added: “It’s the support from organisations like Mecca Bingo that allow our charity to continue with the work we do, as every £20 raised will help provide an hour of Marie Curie nursing care in local communities across the UK.
“It’s great to see how committed Mecca is to helping our charity and I wish Tom the best of luck with his training and on the race day itself.”
