Fire at Davids Chippy
Date published: 21 June 2012
A fire broke out at David’s Fish and Chips on Dale Street at 8:47am this morning (21 June).
Two fire engines were called to Dale Street to deal with the blaze. The engines, both from Rochdale Fire Service, used breathing apparatus, extinguishers and hose reels when dealing with and extinguishing the fire.
The owner of David’s Chippy, Mark Loizou was present when the fire crew arrived. He said: “I’m okay, but the chippy isn’t. The shop will be closed until we’ve assessed the damage and sorted the shop out, but I don’t know how long that will take.
"I have done as much as I can today but the shop is still looking awful. I am going to let it settle and come back tomorrow for a good clean. Luckily, only the cooking range has gone and no structural damage was caused.”
Although the cause of the fire has not been pinpointed, speculation is that it is linked to an electrical fault or a problem with the fans.
