Girlguiding North West England zip wire challenge
Girlguiding North West England held a zip wire challenge on 16 June, in which 6 Senior Section members and Leaders from Rochdale showed their brave, adventurous side.
The dare devils zipped across the Manchester Ship Canal, from the Imperial War Museum to The Lowry, a staggering 260 metres away. The challenge, dubbed ‘Up High’ was part of a series of events taking place across the North West of England over the weekend.
Ellen Kershaw, from the 44th Rochdale Rangers said: “That was the best experience ever! We were all strapped in, so we knew it was safe. It was still quite scary, but amazing at the same time.
"When we heard about the challenge, all of the Rangers said that we had to try it, so we raised the money and I’m really glad that we did.”
Sarah Barnes, Leader from Wardle Guides & Senior Section said: “The zip wire challenge was certainly a bold one, but watching all of the young women put any nerves aside and take part was absolutely fantastic.
"Guiding puts girls in the lead and is a place where young women can spend time developing their confidence and trying things they might not otherwise have the opportunity to do.
"This is the perfect example of the kind of experiences guiding offers. I would encourage anyone who wants to find out more to give us a call, to see just how much they could get out of it!”
‘Up High’ was created by Girlguiding North West England and aimed to bring members from across the whole region together to get outdoors, meet new people and try something new.
A climbing wall and street dance were held at the Lowry Plaza, for those not quite brave enough for the zip line. Other ‘Up High’ events which took place over the weekend included a journey to the highest point of Delamere forest, ‘Old Pale Hill’ which offered views of Cheshire.
