Pioneering for acting success
Date published: 14 June 2012
Reformed criminal, Brent Snape, has his sights set on becoming a full time actor.
Mr Snape found his thirst for acting after appearing as an extra in the film, ‘The Rochdale Pioneers.’ Since then he has pursued his dream and managed to get extra work in the ITV soap ‘Emmerdale’ as well as starring in short feature films.
Mr Snape began filming for ‘The Rochdale Pioneers’ in December with the British Youth Film Academy (BYFA). It will be broadcast on television later this year.
After committing a criminal offence, Mr Snape began his involvement with the BYFA in order to try and turn his life around. Mr Snape said: “I deeply regret causing criminal damage and I am trying to turn my life around, so far it is going positively well and I am now proud of who I am.”
Mr Snape wants to use his own criminal experiences and help others. Amongst his filming roles, he has offered to be a volunteer to help with the rehabilitation and probation of other offenders. Mr Snape said: “It would mean a lot to me to know that my story can benefit other people and also help them make something of their lives.”
“I started to learn maths and English and recently received qualifications for these. I would love to go to University and study Performing Arts, but my long term ambition is to become a successful actor.”
Mr Snape has his agents Adam Hamill and Andy Martini to thank for his television extra roles. He added: “My agents have been excellent to work with and really helpful. I could have stopped pursuing acting after ‘Rochdale Pioneers’ but with my perseverance and help from my agents I am one step closer to my goal of becoming a professional actor.”
‘The Rochdale Pioneers’ was inspired by the 1944 film, ‘Men of Rochdale.’ It re-tells the story of those who founded the modern co-operative movement; which changed the face of business, affected the lives of the global community and eventually shaped the future of commerce.
