Tricia Penrose supports local lung cancer roadshow
The Exchange Shopping Centre welcomed Merseyside actress Tricia Penrose this week, as the ‘Be Clear on Cancer’ roadshow came to Rochdale in order to raise awareness of lung cancer.
The pop-up stand arrived at the Exchange on Wednesday (6 June) and remained until Thursday, allowing shoppers the chance to speak to a nurse about any concerns they may have over lung cancer.
The Be Clear on Cancer campaign is part of the National Awareness and Early Diagnosis Initiative, run in partnership with Cancer Research UK, to improve England's cancer survival rates.
Lung cancer kills more people in England than any other form of cancer, affecting 33,000 people each year. Shockingly, public awareness of the symptoms of lung cancer is relatively low, as figures show that only one in ten people know that a persistent cough lasting three weeks or more could be a symptom of lung cancer.
Shoppers were able to talk to professionals and receive more advice about lung cancer. Those with persistent coughs were urged to visit their GP.
Tricia Penrose, best known for her role as Gina Ward in ITV drama Heartbeat, was there to support the event. Tricia is a supporter of the Be Clear on Cancer lung cancer campaign and the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation as her mother is currently living with lung cancer.

The roadshow will continue to tour North West shopping centres over the coming weeks.
