The Hive Gallery in Rochdale’s Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre is to play host to the work of Birmingham-born artist David R. Newton.
David studied at London’s Royal College of Art and now works in Crawshawbooth, Lancashire. His artwork is to be displayed in the next of a series of exhibitions to be held in the Hive Gallery, which is located in an empty retail unit in the shopping centre on Baillie Street.
The exhibition is entitled Welcome to Copenhagen and portrays David’s imagining of the city of Copenhagen, which he has only visited through faded travel brochures. Visitors will be able to view David’s inspiring work up until 15 July.
The Hive Gallery has been open since 2010 but remains a temporary project as the arrival of a commercial tenant would mean the end of the gallery. As the gallery is run on a voluntary basis, it is only open on extended weekends from Friday through to Sunday, 10am – 4pm.
The exhibition will open tomorrow (Saturday 9 June) at 2.00pm.
