Andrew Crossley and Suzanne Halkyard from Crossley Estates are set to raise money for Cancer Research and Leukaemia and Lymphoma research by taking part in various marathons.

Among the marathons which Mr Crossley is set to undergo include The Great North Run in September and the New York Marathon in November.

In May, Mr Crossley completed the Manchester 10K run. Miss Halkyard said: “Although he was struggling with a bad back, he completed the marathon and enjoyed his experience. His family were there to offer him support along the way and this marathon was perfect training for the other two.”

Miss Halkyard is set to walk in the night time marathon, Manchester Shine on Saturday 8 September. She said: “I am completing the marathon with my family, so training sessions have been a family affair.”

Miss Halkyard is no stranger to the Manchester Shine, having taken part in it previously. She added: “The route this year has changed, offering an exciting, new course.”

It will begin at Old Trafford Football Stadium and pass other sites including the Etihad stadium, Imperial war museum, The Lowry, Millennium Bridge, Media City and the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research. The marathon begins at 8.30pm and the family should have crossed the finish line by 1am, after viewing various Manchester landmarks by moonlight.

Both competitors are on target with their sponsors, but closer to the time of the New York marathon, Mr Crossley may look into other ways of fundraising.

Miss Halkyard’s family has been touched with leukemia, which was her reason for choosing Cancer Research UK . Due to the help of Cancer Research UK, her family’s story is one of success. She wants to raise money so that others can benefit from the work they do.

Mr Crossley also wants to raise money to help families through the challenging times which cancer brings. He has chosen to raise money for luekaemia and lymphoma research as it has affected a close friend’s young son.

Mr Crossley also celebrates his fiftieth birthday this year, but will be asking for donations rather than presents.
