WAGGGS at Milnrow carnival
Date published: 07 June 2012
40 girls and leaders from the Milnrow District Guides and Brownies took part in the Milnrow Carnival.
The theme of their float was World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS). To coincide with this, the float depicted the 4 world centres of girl guiding: London – Big Ben, Mexico – Chichiniza, Switzerland – Chalet and India – Elephant.
Media Officer for the county, Suzanne Halkyard said: “The day was absolutely fantastic and the weather was ideal for a carnival. The girls really enjoyed the day and loved being on the float.”
After the carnival, the Guides and Brownies went to Hollingworth High School, where they set up a recruitment stall. They later took part in a competition to find different emblems, which was enjoyed by all of the girls.
Fiona Wilson and Sally Cook organised the carnival and created the float ideas and overall carnival theme. This year, the carnival theme was the Jubilee. To tie in with this, the Guides and Brownies were wearing red, white and blue.
