Rochdale’s ready to welcome the Olympic Torch!

The Olympic Torch arrives in Rochdale town centre on Saturday 23 June and to celebrate this once in a lifetime event a whole range of fun activities for all the family has been arranged.

A symbol of international peace, the Torch is currently on a tour of the UK which will see it carried by 8,000 inspirational people.

It will arrive in the town centre at around 2.30pm.

The Olympic Torch will arrive in Rochdale at around 1.45pm with the first Torchbearer carrying the flame from the junction of Edenfield Road and Elmsfield Avenue, Norden.

It will be on full view along Sandy Lane, Bury Road, College Road, Newgate and through the town centre along the Esplanade where it’s due to arrive around 2.30pm.

Torchbearers will then carry it along Manchester Road and Bolton Road to Springfield Park.

Cabinet Member for IT, Highway Services, Culture and Leisure, Councillor Jacqueline Beswick, said: “This once in a lifetime chance to see the Olympic Torch is definitely something not to be missed.

“I hope as many people as possible line the streets to cheer the Torchbearers on their way and come into the town centre to enjoy the great activities and be part of the wonderful atmosphere.”
