Rochdale woman wins VisitEngland competition
Date published: 01 June 2012
As the winner of VisitEngland’s search for the country’s biggest fan, Rachel Kershaw of Rochdale and her trusty steed Rosie – a customised campervan – is exploring the cities, towns and villages illuminated by the torch.
VisitEngland’s “Fan in a Van” has taken to the skies and gone deep underground to unearth some of the country’s hidden gems.
Rachel says: “I knew I would be doing and seeing a lot during this trip, but I had no idea that I would be learning so much. I have explored a medieval prison beneath Bradford-upon-Avon’s Norman Bridge, met Romans at Bath’s Roman spa and donned a bonnet at the city’s Jane Austen Centre. Bristol, I found out, is home to the world’s first-ever cruise liner, Brunel’s SS Great Britain, as well as being the birthplace of Captain Blackbeard and Cary Grant.
"I can’t wait to find out what else is in store!”
