Primary pupils get insight into life at Sixth Form College

Date published: 22 May 2012

Staff and pupils from Broadfield Primary School visited Rochdale Sixth Form College last week to get an insight into what they can expect College life to be like when they go in 2018.

The group of 33 Year 5 pupils aged nine and 10 visited the nearby College to find out more about what they can expect during their A Level years, and see where they could go on to study if they excelled in their GCSEs.

As well as having a tour around the state-of-the-art facilities; including the gym, theatre and College café, Rochdale Sixth Form College teacher Nick Vile and Year 12 student Rosie Cooke talked to the children about the courses available and had a short Q & A so the school pupils could find out more about what College life entails.

Nick Vile, Personal Progress Tutor at Rochdale Sixth Form College comments: “It was a pleasure to welcome the pupils to the College, and give them a tour of our facilities, so they can see what options are available to them if they work hard through secondary school. Hopefully, in a few years’ time – we’ll see some familiar faces back at the College.”

Gemma Holt, teacher at Broadfield Primary School comments: “Our pupils got a lot out of the visit. Most had not really thought as far ahead as where they would like go to College, but they talked for days about how much they’d like to study at Rochdale Sixth Form when they’d completed their GCSE’s. It was a real eye opener for them.”
