Rochdale Students at Huddersfield University
Eighteen aspiring lawyers from Rochdale Sixth Form College got an insight into studying for law at university last week, when they spent a day in the life of a Huddersfield University law student.
The A Level group went on the trip as part of their Careers in Law enrichment course, an optional topic taken alongside their Law A Level studies, tailored to those students who have applied to study law at university.
The group were able to experience what studying for a law degree would really be like, by attending lectures and seminars with existing law students and taking a look around the campus itself, stopping off at Huddersfield University’s law library and courtroom.
Dominic Pinto, Subject Leader of Law at Rochdale Sixth Form College, commented: “We think it’s really important to give our students as much insight as possible, into studying law at university, and beyond. By supplementing their A Level in this subject with our Careers in Law enrichment classes, and the chance to visit a law school at a great university like Huddersfield, those students considering law as a vocation will be well prepared for what is a very competitive profession.”
Nayma Kauser, Law student at Rochdale Sixth Form College, said: “I found the visit really useful. The lecture gave us a much better understanding into the kind of work we’d be studying at university. It was really interesting to have a tour around the law school, and campus itself, to see where we would be spending the majority of our time, should we go on to study at Huddersfield University.”
Geoff Fowler, law lecturer at Huddersfield University, added: “It was a pleasure to welcome Rochdale Sixth Form College students to our law school. They really threw themselves into the workshops we had prepared for them, and I hope to see some of them back here in September.”
