Nursery toddles to help hospital
Date published: 18 May 2012
Channings Nursery on Railway Street in Rochdale had a very special visitor at their Teddy Toddle in the form of Humphrey Bear, mascot for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity.
The nursery won the visit from Humphrey Bear, after signing up to hold a Teddy Toddle, a short sponsored walk for the under fives, in support of the charity. The Teddy Toddle, which raised £700, saw the children wearing green and completing a short walk before enjoying a party that included green jelly and green chocolate chip ice cream.
Money raised from the Teddy Toddle will go towards supporting Therapeutic Play which provides patients with the comfort and pleasure of doing normal things and helps to take a child’s mind off the stressful experience that a stay in hospital can bring.
The nursery signed up to take part in the Teddy Toddle as a thank you for the treatment one of their children – JoJo Grumbridge – received at the hospital in 2011.
Denise Worrall, Manager at Channings Nursery commented: “This charity is very special to us here at Channings, ever since we got our JoJo back. The children know the doctors and nurses made JoJo better when he was poorly and are delighted to get involved in the Teddy Toddle to help other children. They were even more delighted when Humphrey came to visit and are really happy to have made a new friend in Humphrey.”
Angela Harris, Community and Events Fundraising Officer commented: “Humphrey had a lovely time at Channings Nursery and enjoyed taking part in their Teddy Toddle. We really appreciate our local communities getting behind us to help us to make a difference to the thousands of children treated at the hospital each year. “
As well as the visit from Humphrey the nursery also won a bumper pack of goodies including crayons and books, which were kindly donated by Ryman.
Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity is raising money to ensure continued excellence in treatment, care and research at the hospital – improving the lives of thousands of children each year across the North West and beyond.
The support of the Charity means that the hospital can provide additional resources that make life a little easier for patients and their families who use the hospital.
