Mandale Park BMX track to be regenerated
Date published: 16 May 2012
Mandale Park BMX track is set to be regenerated as part of ‘Transform Your Patch’ - a campaign that aims to transform around 165 outdoor spaces across the UK with the support of the public. The regeneration is expected to give a boost to Rochdale, as research has found that people in the UK believe access to outdoor space is vital to the sense of spirit and connection within a community.
Plans for the site include the restoration and resurfacing of the BMX track and the possible extension of the track and provision of additional jumps.
‘Transform Your Patch’ is one of the most ambitious community-led regeneration schemes to take place in the UK and will create great outdoor spaces for people to enjoy through a series of projects. The campaign will focus on transforming spaces in four outdoor project areas for everyone to enjoy; playgrounds, picnic areas and parks, skate parks and 5-a-side football pitches. Each project type is championed by a different celebrity and supported by different brands. Skate parks across the UK are being championed by Fazer from NDubz and are supported by Tango and Mountain Dew.
‘Transform Your Patch’ is a partnership between leading environmental regeneration charity Groundwork and favourite soft drink brands from Britvic and PepsiCo. Every single soft drink purchased of any of the participating brands represents a real 1cm² piece of land that will be transformed. It’s a simple way for people across the UK to contribute to a long-lasting legacy on their patch.
Groundwork has identified around 165 projects of various sizes to be transformed across 12 regions in the UK, ensuring that a variety of projects and a range of regions benefit from the campaign.
Phil Treaton, Land & Design Manager at Groundwork Oldham & Rochdale, said: “We’re delighted that Mandale Park is due to benefit from the national ‘Transform Your Patch’ campaign. The project could get extra funding but we need as many people as possible to vote every week for this project, from now until October.”
Jonathan Gatward, GB Marketing Director, Britvic Soft Drinks, comments: “70% of people in the UK agree that brands should do more for regional communities, so we are delighted to work with Groundwork and PepsiCo to regenerate Mandale Park as part of ‘Transform Your Patch.”
Amanda Thomson, Marketing Director, PepsiCo UK, added: “Transform Your Patch’ has the power to make a real difference to communities across the UK. By working with Groundwork to transform outdoor spaces, we will create more opportunities for people to get outdoors and enjoy themselves, be it to meet friends for a picnic or practice their skateboarding skills.”
