A woman who was stabbed to death in Rochdale has been formally identified.
Just before midnight on Monday 7 May 2012, police were called to a house on Darlington Road, Kirkholt, by the North West Ambulance Service, following reports a woman had been found with stab wounds.
Officers attended and discovered the body of 26-year-old Saiba Khatoon.
A post mortem examination has concluded that Saiba died from multiple stab wounds.
A 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder shortly before 5am on Tuesday 8 May 2012. He remains in police custody for questioning.
Detective Chief Inspector David Warren from the Major Incident Team said: “Our thoughts are with Saiba’s family and friends at this time, who are understandably distraught that their loved one has been taken from them in this way.
“We are in the early stages of the investigation and are working to establish the full circumstances of what has happened.
“I would like to reassure residents that we do not believe there is any danger to the wider community, as we believe this is an isolated incident. If any residents want to raise any concerns or pass on information I would encourage them to come and talk to us.”
Anyone with information should phone police on 0161 856 8531 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
