RBPP condemns sexual grooming of young girls and welcomes the verdict

Date published: 08 May 2012

The Rochdale Bangladeshi Partnership Project (RBPP) has condemned the crimes of the men found guilty of child sexual exploitation.

A  spokesman said :"We welcome the verdict given by the courts and at long last the victims get some justice.

"We must all work together to ensure all young people are safeguarded against sexual predators. We condemn these actions and thank the authorities for bringing to justice individuals and groups who carry out such appalling crimes.

Dobir Miah, Secretary of the RBPP, added: “We all have to work together and remain united as communities. There is a lot of good work that goes on in Rochdale and we cannot allow a small criminal minority regardless of their ethnic or religious background to stigmatise an entire community through their actions.

“These men are criminals and do not represent the views or actions of the wider Asian community.

“We must all show unity like we do when incidents occur that have the potential to raise tensions and damage community cohesion.

“The RBPP will continue to work in partnership with all agencies to put in place stronger preventative measures and support them in bringing to justice anyone who targets vulnerable children and young people or harm them in this way.

"We will continue to support the police and courts in taking action against any individuals.

"We offer our thoughts to the victims and their families during this time. It is a serious, appalling crime and has no place in any other society whatsoever."
