Badminton has become a way to fitness and health for this group of Rochdale enthusiasts.
They are part of an initiative organised by Rochdale-based BME Health Matters. These sessions are run by individual contributions.
A total of 32 people are in the programme with more joining each week.
The aim is to help individuals with long term health problems to keep fit while sharing their experiences.
A special mention of Vicky Maltby of Badminton UK, who helped to set up the initial sessions at a local sports centre and also Andy, Simon and Alex of Mathew Moss Sports centre.
Mohammad Afzal a member of the badminton group said: “Badminton is just one aspect which leads to changing attitude towards the condition you have and trying to make a positive approach to life”.
Khalid Bashir of BME Health Matters said: “We have people who have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, stress related issues. The main challenge is to have a network where people can have access to the help required and in turn make simple, positive, lifestyle changes which will enhance the quality of life. BME Health Matters short term goal is to work in partnership with relevant health agencies to organise drop in sessions where people can share their experiences in confidence and also they can be sign posted to the relevant services”.
Anybody is welcome to come along and join in.
