School of Rock

Date published: 01 May 2012

Did you know that more steel was used in construction of The Rock complex than was used to build the Eiffel Tower? Or there were up to 500 workers a day building Bury's new retail, leisure and residential complex? And that The Rock moved Bury's ranking as most important shopping centres in the UK, from 83rd to 27th?

A group of 24 pupils from Falinge Park High School in Rochdale were given this insight and more on their visit to Miller Homes@The Rock luxury show apartment. The pupils have chosen The Rock retail, leisure and residential development for their GCSE Geography field trip project, so were pleased to get all the facts and figures they could.

Teacher Gaynor Brookes, who led the students on the trip, said: “The pupils were delighted to hear about the planning process and the £350m cost of The Rock complex. They were also intrigued by the interactive 3D model of the development that features in Miller Homes marketing suite and cost in the region of £60,000 to make.

“The talk and the presentation, alongwith their tour of the show apartment, brought alive for them the depth of the planning process, the scale of the project and the resource required to build the complex. The facts and figures behind the scheme were astounding and will form an important part of their geography project work.”
