Police in Rochdale use social media to engage with public

Date published: 01 May 2012

Senior police officers from Rochdale will be using Twitter and Facebook to communicate with residents across the borough in real time.

These social networking websites are a fast and simple way for officers to give updates on police activity and pass on crime prevention messages to the public.

In return, residents can also use the sites to let officers know about the issues that are important to them.

Chief Superintendent Annette Anderson of Greater Manchester Police’s Rochdale Division said: “Stations across the borough will be visited each month by either myself or one of my two superintendents and three chief inspectors. We will be available for question and answer sessions* on Twitter and Facebook, and these will be advertised in advance through social media.

“In addition, people who participate will be provided with photographs and mini-profiles of each officer, and I would encourage as many people as possible to take part, as continuing dialogue between officers and communities is vital to ensuring the borough is policed successfully.”

To participate in these sessions, please visit www.twitter.com
