Contribute to third edition of 'Weavers of Dreams'

Co-operative author David Thompson is asking for supporters of his 'Weavers of Dreams' book to help contribute towards the third edition.

In an initiative for the International Year of Co-operatives, Mr Thompson, originally from England, is printing a special updated edition of his story of the Rochdale Pioneers who founded the principles for the global movement in 1844.

Set at the height of the Industrial Revolution, the book calls on the literary observations of Dickens, Disraeli, Elizabeth Gaskell, D.H. Lawrence, Marx and other key writers of the times.

Covered are the riots, revolts and reforms of a nation undergoing immense change; cooperatives as a national economic force, the critical role of the Co-operative Women’s Guild, the impact of cooperative education, and the Pioneers commitment to building community.

Readers of past editions are being asked to provide a 'review quote' to go on the cover of the next edition, which is being funded by co-operatives across the US.

Mr Thompson, President of Twin Pines Cooperative Foundation in California, has started an international search for readers of the book: "If you have read 'Weavers of Dreams' and would like to write a two sentence quote about 'Weavers of Dreams' please do. The top three quotes will be included in a selection of quotes printed within the new edition. The writers of those three quotes will receive a free inscribed copy of the new book from the author."
