Springfield Park picnic table project

Date published: 26 April 2012

The Friends of Springfield Park have received a £17,000 grant from Biffa Award, a multi-million pound fund that helps to build communities and transform lives through awarding grants to community and environmental projects across the UK.

The money will be spent on installing a permanent picnic area close to the medieval mere on site for up to 60 people, including disabled access.

Funding will allow for the installation of proper drainage to replace the old system, which was installed over 100 years ago. This project is anticipated to be completed for use some time in late June this year.

This award will contribute to the Friends of Springfield Park’s five year plan for the park, that will see a number of improvements for the benefit of the local community and allow the friends' group to continue to live up to its mission statement which is “to delight our community by exceeding its expectations.”

Gillian French, Biffa Award Programme Manager, said: “We are pleased to support this project which will help the Friends of Springfield Park to continue to provide the local community with opportunities to come together to socialise.”
