Reminder to vote on 3 May

Date published: 26 April 2012

Residents in the borough of Rochdale are being encouraged to vote in the local elections on Thursday 3 May. With just a week left until polling day, the council’s refuse collection vehicles did their bit to encourage people to have their say – by forming a giant ‘X’ before setting out on the morning’s collections.

Returning Officer Linda Fisher said recycling and waste collections are just two of hundreds of council responsibilities, and the council makes decisions that affect everyone:

“Local government makes a difference to everybody's lives, delivering important services and making our communities better places to live. I’m urging people to use their vote and have their say in who represents them on the council. Councillors make important decisions and the local elections are part of that democratic process.”

Elections to Rochdale Borough Council will be held in all 20 of the borough’s wards.

The council is encouraging everyone to use their vote, and if they have a postal vote to return it by 10pm on 3 May.

Polling stations will be open across the borough from 7am until 10pm.

One seat in each of the borough’s 20 wards is up for grabs on Thursday 3 May. The current make-up of the council is Labour 32, Conservative 18 and Liberal Democrat 10.

The results will be announced on Rochdale Online as they are declared and we will as usual be reporting live from the count at the Town Hall.
