Man sustains fractured eye socket and broken nose

A man sustained a fractured eye socket and broken nose during an assault in Rochdale.

It happened outside the Halifax Bank on Yorkshire Street, Rochdale, between 9.10pm and 9.30pm on Sunday 8 April 2012.

The victim had been in the Blue Bell pub opposite before the incident, and as he left became involved in an argument with one of the pub's doorstaff. The man was then assaulted and had to be treated in hospital for his injuries.

Police are now appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and bailed until 8 June 2012 pending further inquiries.

Detective Constable Ruth Thompson, of Rochdale CID, said: "We have established there was some sort of altercation between this man and a member of the pub's doorstaff which resulted in an assault that has left the victim with a fractured eye socket and a broken nose.

"What we now need is anyone who witnessed this attack to come forward so we can build up an accurate picture of the events that led up to this incident.

"We know from reviewing the CCTV footage that there were a number of people who were in the street who may have saw the attack. I would ask you to cast your mind back and if you were out in the town centre on that night and you remember seeing such an altercation, we need to hear from you."
