Free talk at Fairfield Hospital offers insight to the role of physiotherapy

A Lead Physiotherapist is inviting trust members, staff and the public to come to Fairfield General Hospital and find out more about the role of Physiotherapy, working with both inpatient and outpatient services, as part of a free talk on Wednesday 10 April, at Fairfield General Hospital.

Physiotherapy can help to treat many different conditions. Physiotherapists play an important role in multi-disciplinary teams - providing assessment and treatment for those patients admitted to hospital. Physiotherapists are also involved in making sure patients are safely discharged from hospital. They will be part of the team making decisions about when patients are safe and well enough to return home or referring them on to step down facilities.

The talk will provide a brief overview of the Physiotherapy Service provided across the Trust to include inpatients and outpatients, as well as explaining what links the physiotherapy service has with organisations outside of the hospital – such as GPs, council-led programmes such as BEATS, as well as voluntary organisations.

Joanne Howard, Operational and Professional Lead Physiotherapist, Bury and Rochdale Care Organisation, who will be delivering the talk said: "Physiotherapy can help to manage many conditions and has an important role to play in the assessment and treatment of a diverse group of patients, as well as having a key role in linking with external agencies to improve the general health and well-being of the population."

Fairfield General Hospital is part of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group. The Northern Care Alliance NHS Group brings together five hospitals, specialist and acute services, a range of associated community services, and over 17,000 staff across Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

The free talk will be held Wednesday 10th April, 2.00 pm – 3.00 pm in the Education Centre, at Fairfield General Hospital. The event is free one of a series of ‘Medicine for Members’ events arranged to give the public and the Trust’s public members a greater insight into their local hospital and the services it provides. So far, more than 12,500 people have signed up to become Trust members.
