Students get taste of care sector after meeting business people

Date published: 22 January 2019

Health care came to life for students from Whitworth Community High School when army veteran John Keogh and his wife Beryl went to talk about his business, Bluebird Care, which  provides trained carers to support people to live in their own homes.

The GCSE Health and Social Care students learnt about the practical application of the subject and said it helped them to understand the lessons they had in school.

Both Amy Bradley and Sadie Bloor, 13, plan a career in the medical and care industry.

Amy said: “I would like to look after people because my family is already in a medical and caring background.”

Sadie said her mum was a nurse and her dad a paramedic and she too wanted a career in care.

Amy said: “I learnt that he wants to try to achieve an outstanding rating in all areas and he looks out for people who are able to care for others as wanting to care is not something you can teach people.”

Sadie said: “Meeting John was better than just learning about the subject from a book or in lessons because you got a better understanding of what they do.”
