Roll up, roll up! Join in the fun of the Festival of Ageing

Date published: 25 June 2018

If you are aged 50 and over and live in Rochdale, don’t miss the chance to join in one of this summer’s liveliest and loveliest events – the Festival of Ageing

The Festival for Ageing is the first of its kind to take place across the city region.

The festival as a whole will celebrate ageing across the city region and will bring people together over the age of 50 and provide activities for festival-goers to enjoy. The Festival of Ageing is funded by Ambition for Ageing, a £10.2 million National Lottery funded programme set up by the Big Lottery Fund and led by GMCVO. The programme is aimed at creating more age friendly places across Greater Manchester and empowering people to live fulfilling lives as they age.

In addition, there are over 300 other fringe events going on throughout the fortnight for older people and their families to get involved in. Amongst the myriad of activities across Rochdale are reading groups, knitting clubs, exercise sessions, singalongs, computer classes, afternoon teas, craft groups, concerts and much, much more:

Commenting on the Festival, John Hannen, Ambition for Ageing Programme Manager, said: “Ambition for Ageing is absolutely delighted to be hosting Greater Manchester’s first ever Festival of Ageing. It is our hope and intention that the fortnight’s events will bring people together to try something new, meet other people, make friends and have a good time.

“For some it will be a chance to try something out that they can turn into a new hobby. For others, it is simply the chance to mix with like-minded people, talk, bond, and create some great memories.”

Alongside a fringe of community events, Rochdale will be joining in the fun on Friday 13 July with a booking-only celebration event at Heywood Civic Centre
