EEF comments on Northern transport strategy
Date published: 20 March 2015

Darrell Matthews, EEF North West Region Director
Commenting on the Northern transport strategy announced by the Government today, Darrell Matthews, North West Region Director at EEF, says: “Today's Northern transport strategy contains some good proposals, particularly around improving the road network to better support connectivity across Northern cities and improving access to regional airports. However, manufacturers will question the emphasis on investing in the rail network, while our local roads continue to crumble.
"The approach of publishing a range of options for upgrades is also the correct one. But this shouldn't just be isolated to select regions and just the rail network. It should be broadened to all infrastructure sectors right across the country as part of a long-term infrastructure strategy developed by a UK Infrastructure Authority."
