A big Event
We are now nearing the visit of our Geman friends. How time flys!
They arrive at the Town Hall at approx 5.00pm on Sept 8th and depart at 9.00am on the 15th.
The pattern of their visit will be simiar to previous ones with one exception. For various reasons the size of the group will be smaller than before but we are sure that the enthusisasm on both sides is as great as ever and we are all looking forward to seeing old Friends and making new ones. We know this will be the case as there are new members in both groups and we are always open to more!
As usual the activities will be a mixture of the organised and the private. The former include a trip to the Museum of Science and Technology followed by a Ship Canal trip and a visit to the Lowery. Then later in the week a trip to Blackpool with activities in the Tower, not forgetting the Illuminations.
Our current Mayor, Councillor Gartside is also a member of our Society and has kindly agreed to entertain our Guests in the Town Hall and has arranged a tour of our famous building.
The private entertaing by the hosts is always the best way to enjoy the experience of learning about other people and perhaps sparking an interest in a foreign language.
We hope to be able to report a successful trip.
They've been, they came and now after a great week, they are safely back home in Germany!
I am happy to report a successful exchange. All the events we organised were enjoyed with just the right balance between that and free time left enabling us to entertain them privately. So many thanks to all who worked so hard.
Kathy and John, new members who have joined us, did a great hosting job and I know their guests were very satisfied. On the subject of new members, we have in the last twelve months been lucky to have five others. So welcome to Dolores, Chris, Eddie and Gurbir and Regine.
We are already talking about the trip to Bielefeld in 2013 and wondering what our hosts in Bielefeld will offer us on this the 60th anniversary of the founding of the twinning.
We hope later to have some photos to post on the site. But in the meantime...Watch this space!
