Local Election 2008
25 Muriel Street
In May 2006 and 2007 I unsuccessfully asked for your support in the local election, and here we are again trying to convince you that there is more available in services and actions than what you are receiving at the moment.
I have lived in Rochdale for 35 years and I despair at the decline in the town and its services that have occurred in this time.
I stop many times and think of what has gone wrong with Rochdale, and the only answer I can arrive at is that we have had far too much of Labour and Liberal Democrat.
Every year we hear the same old mantra “vote for us and we will give you the world” and after the election has run its course what happens? We go back to the same system and the same way of life as prior to the election and all complain again about how bad the council is.
This is particularly pertinent to the residents in the Kingsway ward. We have three Lib Dem councillors who tend to come out of hibernation when elections are due and try to impress on us just how much they have done for us since the last election. We are not blind we can see the litter, we can see the results of fly tipping, we can read the crime statistics, we can see the graffiti and what’s more we can see just how much our councillors have not done since the last election.
The Labour Party are also trying to make inroads into Kingsway again by inserting someone who does not live in the area and who has previously had the chance to halt the decline in the area but failed miserably. What has changed in this man to make him think he can do any better than last time?
You will no doubt be receiving leaflets over the next few weeks saying that the Conservatives cannot win here in Kingsway, and they are probably right, if you the voters continue voting for more of the same.
I am proud to be standing for the council in Kingsway but things will never change for the better unless change is made to the status quo. Labour and Liberal Democrats have proved over the years that they are incapable of making the changes needed.
Conservatives can make the changes if you give them a chance.
